Rocky Mountain is one of the most hiked mountains in our area. It shares a trail head with Black Bear Mountain and is located less than a mile from the town of Inlet. It is one mile round trip with an ascent of 475 feet. Rocky Mountain tops out at an elevation of 2,205 feet and is a fun family hike.
Black Bear Mountain trail head is located in the same parking area as Rocky Mountain trail head. Black Bear Mountain has two different hiking options, which I will explain more below. The elevation gain is 700+ feet and at the top the elevation comes in at 2,442 feet. The mountain is considered moderate/intermediate, according to most sources.
Bald Mountain, also known as Rondaxe Mountain, is a very popular hike located in between the towns of Old Forge and Eagle Bay. It is a 2 mile round trip and is classified as easy/moderate, depending on who you ask or which website you read. In my opinion, it is easier than Rocky Mountain, despite being longer. Let's just say I am not an expert though. There is a 400-500 foot ascent and it tops out at an elevation of 2350 feet.
Blue Mountain, is a popular hike located in the town of Indian Lake. It is a 4.5 mile round trip and is classified as hard/challenging. There is a 1500+ foot ascent and it tops out at an elevation of 3750 feet. At the top is a Fire Tower with beautiful views!
For those who prefer to hike a flatter trail, Moss Lake might be the perfect hike for you! The trail is a 2.5 mile loop round Moss Lake with various camp sites that offer better lake views for those of you dying to see the water! The trail rolls up and down throughout the entire hike with a maximum elevation gain of only 150 feet. If you are looking for a quick sneak peek, there is a one tenth of a mile trail that leads directly to the lake from the parking lot.
If you are looking for a VERY easy hike with a great payoff, Death Brook Falls is the one for you! This is a .6-mile round trip in and out hike to a small but beautiful waterfall. Death Brook Falls is located past Raquette Lake, on the right-hand side of the road, if you are coming from Inlet.
