Next up on our list of restaurants to feature is The Little Fox, located in Big Moose. I will start by saying that I have (unfortunately) yet to visit The Little Fox. It is on my restaurant bucket list though. I have heard SO MANY AMAZING things about this place.
From what I can gather off of FB posts, friends who have visited and reviews, their menu is not typical. They offer many unique, interesting and different kinds of dishes. For example, one of their most popular dishes is the Rice Bowl - chicken in a peanut ginger sauce served over rice with assorted seasonal vegetables.
Another exciting dish they feature is Noodle Night. They say: This traditional Japanese style Ramen Bowl has a rich broth with noodles and vegetables . Chef Brian cooks the broth for over 24 hours to infuse all the great flavors. Other favorites include their Brussels Sprouts dish, the Waffle Fries, and Arancini (Three crispy, deep fried ricotta balls stuffed with mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and Oil Well truffle oil on a bed of mushroom gravy).
They have a very distinctive and eccentric drink menu. From what I understand they concoct most of the drink specials themselves and use their friends as guinea pigs! I mean, sign us up right? I can be a guinea pig!
If you read through the reviews, one thing that stands out the most are the comments about the owner, Beth. She is friendly, accommodating, gracious and fun. She works hard to ensure everyone has a great time and is fully satisfied before leaving. The staff also receive rave reviews. In 2021, the Little Fox won the award for the "Adirondacks Best Of... Restaurants in the Western Region" which is a huge deal. And a neat tidbit - the dishes don't match. And yes, that's on purpose. Another way The Little Fox stands out.
I'm not going to lie. The Little Fox is off the beaten path. You turn onto the Big Moose Road in Eagle Bay and travel 7 miles, probably never going above 45 mph. But from what I understand, the drive is WELL WORTH the meal and experience. Have you been? Share your positive experiences and favorite dishes!
