We have covered quite a few restaurants that people to for dinner. We are going to pivot for a bit and shift focus to places in the area that serve breakfast and lunch! We are going to start with a place that's very special to me - the place I got my first, real, legal job... Tamarack Café. This is yet another building with an incredible history. I will start my write up with my history of the building. When I was 14 years old, the business was called "The Last Waltz" and was owned by Bill and Lynn Faro. After a few years, they sold it to Brandon and Meg DiMartino who ran it for many years as "The Tamarack Café". A few years back they sold it to Sarah Lukens, who had worked for them. She has kept a lot the same, while adding some cosmetic upgrades and new menu items. When I was younger, there was a movie theater in the building as well. I also worked there! Unfortunately, with how expensive movies have become to show and advancements in technology, they were unable to sustain the theater. Luckily for everyone they turned it into an 18 hole mini golf which adds another layer of fun for Inlet!
The Tamarack Café is located downtown, right in the smack dab middle of Inlet. The outside and inside has a very cute Adirondacky, woodsy décor. There is seating outside for those nice days and those who have pups with them. They offer both breakfast and lunch. As for breakfast, the menu is what I would call traditional for a breakfast place - and that's a good thing! When people go out to breakfast, they expect to see a variety of their favorites on the menu. Tamarack provides! They offer the traditional eggs, toast, meat and potato combos. Some even have pancakes! They have a variety of breakfast sandwiches and as well as pancakes including "Jakes cakes" which are pancakes made with walnuts and blueberries. They even have real maple syrup for those of you that prefer! They get their syrup from the Zehr family in Lowville. They also offer, as a special, biscuits, gravy and sausage, as a stand alone and as a few combos. Finally, they offer what they tout as their "Specialty" dish - The Tamarack Bowl. The Tamarack Bowl is "two sausage patties layered under to over easy eggs, melted cheddar cheese on top, hash browns and topped with country gravy." Can you say "Delish?!" For those with a sweet tooth, they sell homemade cinnamon rolls on the weekend!
Now, onto lunch... again, a traditional lunch menu with salads, sandwiches, wraps, melts and burgers. They offer some "fun" salads such as "Hippie Right on Man!" (for cheese lovers), "The Bandido" (for south of the border lovers) and "The California Bistro" (for fruit and nut lovers). Some delicious sandwiches include "The Chicken A-La-Lu-Lu" (Grilled chicken, candied jalapenos, bacon, swiss and ranch) and "The Rocky Mt. Chicken" (grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, swiss and mayo). They offer 6 kinds of wraps including "The Tama-Wrap" (crispy chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion, ranch and honey mustard). They offer 7 kinds of melts including "The New England" (turkey and cranberry sauce on Texas grilled cheese) and "The Electric Pig" (ham, bacon, pickles, swiss cheese and honey mustard on Rye). This is all in addition to 5 kinds of burgers! They offer french fries and cajun fries (my personal favorite) as sides, as well as seasonal sides such as macaroni salad, pasta and meat salad, coleslaw, soup and chili. The soup and chili are traditionally served in the colder months.
The Tamarack has a nice children's menu for both breakfast and lunch. They make, bottle and sell their own version of hot sauce, known as "Sap Sauce". They label their "Sap Sauce" as a "mild sauce that goes on everything!" They can ship it to you if you want some, or buy some the next time you visit! They have some new ideas "brewing" for this summer... They are starting “Mug Club“ for the frequent visitors of the cafe. If you purchase a mug from them, each time you come in, you will be served fresh hot coffee in your mug, at no additional charge! These are real mugs, not travel mugs, that stay right in the restaurant - hanging on a hook behind the counter! They are adding a cold brew coffee station this spring - offering iced brewed coffee, including white raspberry hot chocolate! They are also going to offer refreshing fruit infused water! Watch the menu for some new items including some new salads and wraps. Also, another plus - they offer gluten free bread!
