Alright folks, next on our list of restaurants to feature is The Seventh Lake House... as you can probably guess, it is up on Seventh Lake... LOL.... In fact you can see Seventh Lake off in the distance as you dine at this classy restaurant. The Seventh Lake House is owned by a local couple, Jim and Chris. Jim is the Head Chef and designer of all things delicious. Chris, and their daughter Courtney play a big role in the dining room. The building is a pretty wooden structure, often decorated with beautiful flowers. The dining room is always nicely set, giving it an upscale feel and warmth.
It's been while since I have eaten at The Seventh Lake House, but when I did, I remember feeling like I was in a "really nice" restaurant. When guests ask me for a "Fancier" restaurant, The Seventh Lake House is always on my list of recommendations. As I was researching this article, one thing I noticed right away is the amount of Gluten Free items on their menu. Big thumbs up! Trust me when I say, trying to avoid gluten is really challenging, but especially when going out to eat. I really appreciate the number of GF choices on their menu. They also offer several vegetarian options as well.
Their menu is a nice mix of some familiar dishes and some very eclectic, interesting choices you won't find elsewhere (that I know of). For example, on their "Shareables" section, they offer crab cakes and fried onion petals, but they also offer candied calamari and infused deviled eggs. If you are feeling adventurous, this might be a place to stop. I've heard great things about their salads - they shred the vegetables and place them on a bed of romaine instead of leaving them in big chunks. As one friend said, "You get the taste of vegetable in every bite." And all of their dressings are homemade!
Their dinner menu comprises of meat-centered items that feature steaks, chicken, pork, lamb and seafood. While scouring their "Specials" posts, I noticed a reoccurring theme of seafood. Specials included Seafood Courtney, Chilean Seabass, Red Snapper Provecal, and Margarita Shrimp. It is obvious that Chef Jim likes to mix things up in the kitchen, as there are other interesting specials such as Brazilian Pork and New Zealand Rack of Lamb.
I can honestly say, I have never had a guest return from The Seventh Lake House unhappy. They always try a variety of the dishes, but I can say that one dish I hear about repeatedly is the "Cowboy Steak" - a spiced rubbed, pan seared rib eye. I have been told it is "The best steak in the Adirondacks!". If you read through their reviews, one thing that stands out is how people talk about the quality and deliciousness of the food. I would say it is worth a try folks!
Chef Jim hand picks each bottle of wine listed on their menu, so wine connoisseurs rejoice. From what I hear the wine list is extensive and tasty! The Seventh Lake House usually runs nightly specials and weekend specials, so watch out for those. One other neat tidbit is that the owners of The Seventh Lake House also run the restaurant located at the McCauley Mountain Ski Chalet, "The Grill Room at McCauley Mt". If you are ever skiing, or up that way during the winter, check them out for some sandwiches and soups!
***Before visiting, please CALL and MAKE reservations. They DO require them. And from what I have heard, do not wait until the day of... plan in advance!
